The Crop Market Systems Officer – Oromia will be responsible for assisting with designing and implementing crop/horticulture interventions and technical activities in the region. This position will be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with frequent travel to project areas in the region.and will report to the Area Program Coordinator-Oromia.
Job Responsibilities
Work closely with the Area Program Coordinator and other technical team to develop and execute project work plans and maintain technical oversight of all crop/horticulture related interventions. Incentivize the broad participation of crop/horticulture actors and new investment into the crop/horticulture sector.
Assist in design and implementation of food supply, food environment and food utilization activities in assigned area. These activities must contribute in meaningful and measurable ways to food security, through improvements to productivity, quality, production efficiencies, crop profitability, food accessibility and food affordability.
Oversee regional subcontractors and consultants for crop/horticulture activities as assigned.
Contribute to the design and implementation of catalytic project grants under contract mechanism designed to spur private sector investment, act as an engagement manager, ensure timely project implementation and technical reliability, monitor project activities, and ensure quality of results and tangible impact against deliverables specified in the grant agreements.
Support Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team on crop and/or horticulture value chain real-time data collection.
Liaise between stakeholders such as government, private as well as donor programs who are directly or indirectly working in the crop and/or horticulture sector in the region. Provide technical guidance and serve as a subject matter expert.
Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Other Educational Qualification
Master’s degree and 3 years of experience, or a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
Minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting crop and horticulture interventions required.
Prior experience working on the Feed the Future Ethiopia Transforming Agriculture activity preferred.
Demonstrated experience in economic growth, value chain development, or agricultural development programs strongly preferred.
Verbal and written fluency in English required, understanding of local context and Afaan Oromo language.
Ability to travel and work throughout Ethiopia in difficult terrain/conditions at times.
