Job Responsibilities
Conduct interdisciplinary research on just transitions, resilience economics, and climate adaptation policy.
Analyze energy-related data, economic indicators, and development outcomes across UNDP portfolios.
Support the drafting of policy briefs, discussion papers, and economic assessments on energy and climate topics.
Contribute to SEH’s knowledge products, integrating socio-economic analysis and inclusive governance frameworks.
Provide ad hoc support to SEH initiatives and cross-cutting collaborations within UNDP.
Conduct literature reviews and policy mapping of just transition frameworks, focusing on social inclusion, labor, and economic diversification.
Analyze climate adaptation and resilience policies using a political economy lens, identifying barriers to inclusive energy systems change.
Support comparative research on how energy investments impact income distribution, job creation, and vulnerability reduction.
Compile and analyze datasets related to energy access, socio-economic indicators, and adaptation financing across UNDP-supported countries.
Conduct basic quantitative analysis using household survey data, national energy statistics, or macroeconomic datasets.
Visualize findings using dashboards, charts, and summaries to support SEH's engagement with decision-makers.
Analyze UNDP Country Programme Documents (CPDs), project reports, and evaluations to extract evidence and best practices related to energy and resilience.
Contribute to internal strategic documents, concept notes, and funding proposals aligned with UNDP’s work on energy and climate justice.
Support knowledge exchange across UNDP regional and global teams by preparing background notes, talking points, and briefing materials.
Draft short policy notes or blogs that communicate key findings in a compelling, accessible way.
Support the integration of case studies and evidence into SEH reports, strategy documents, and global knowledge platforms.
Assist in preparing materials for high-level dialogues and global events
Other Educational Qualification
Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in fields such as International Development, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, or a related field;
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in these disciplines;
Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (1) and (2) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
Skills
Demonstrated experience in research and policy analysis on sustainable development, climate change, energy transitions, or economic justice;
Knowledge of policy frameworks related to energy access, climate finance, and just transitions;
Experience working with or supporting UN or multilateral organizations is an asset;
Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative analytics and synthesis methods;
Prior writing or publication experience (academic, policy, or advocacy) is required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English language is required;
Fluency in other official languages of the UN is considered an asset.
