6 TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PHONE INTERVIEW

image

Follow these tips for your next phone interview:

Be ready. Prepare by researching the company and knowing why you are a good fit for the position. Also, have several questions prepared to ask the interviewer.

Be concise. Phone interviews tend to be shorter than in-person interviews which means that you have less time to make a positive impression. If your responses are too long or too detailed the interviewer will lose interest. To do this prior to the interview practice your responses aloud to potential questions. Also, use Big Interview, our online interview practice tool.

Have your resume and job description in front of you. Prior to the interview highlight items that you want to emphasize and make note of your key strengths.

Take the call in a quiet space. Make sure you are in a room where will be no distractions during the call. This is a business call and you do not want any dogs barking, knocks on the door or other interruptions. If this is a video call you will also want to ensure that your background looks professional.

Body Language: You want the interviewers to know that  you are interested and excited about the position so think about your posture and remember to smile!

Follow-Up.Within 24 hours send an email thank you that will reemphasize your interest in the position.

For many positions there is a step you must pass through before the in-person interview—the phone interview. Employers conduct phone interviews because this is an efficient way to screen through candidates without the time and expense of an onsite interview.
