Job interview thank-you letter with samples

Sending a thank you letter to recruiters after interview is a professional etiquette and leaves a very nice impression on your hiring manager. This is irrespective of how your interview has gone; a thank you letter shows your gratitude towards the company and the hiring manager to show interest in your profile and take out time to interview you.  However, a majority of job seekers and applicants do not send a thank you letter post the interview.
What Purpose Does a ‘Thank You’ Letter Serve?
A thank you letter is your chance to remind the hiring manager of your skills and abilities that you bring on the table. You can even rearticulate any low notes from the interview in a positive context or if you were asked to share anything additional after the interview. Additionally, it:
  • Strengthens the fact that you want the job
  • Shows your professionalism
  • Helps you stand apart from other candidates
  • Draw the interviewer’s thoughts back to the strongest aspects of your candidacy.
Here is how you can write a professional ‘Thank You’ Letter to the interviewer.
Start with a greeting: Always begin with a formal salutation and the interviewer’s name. Example: Dear [Name], Hi [Name], Hello [Name]. Avoid using To Whom It May Concern (only use if you have no other workable options).
Express gratitude: Since it is a thank you letter, you must directly talk about the subject. Say things like, <Thank you for your interest in my profile> in the first sentence. Do mention about the position you were interviewed for to help the reader recall you and understand the context of your mail.  Sending a thank you letter after the job interview is a professional gesture that won’t go unnoticed.
Add specific details:  Ensure you specify what you are saying thank you for and add certain details about your conversation as well as your skills. Here you may want to remind the interviewer of specific moments from the interview. Also use this space to share any further details, which the interviewer might have asked you to provide later.
Close with regards: Use an appropriate closing, such as ‘Regards,’ or ‘Sincerely’ followed by [Your Name].

Always keep your thank you letter brief and to the point and don’t delay in sending it. The best practice is to send it within the same day after the interview. Such professional etiquette certainly reflect positively on your candidacy for the given role and reaffirm your interest in the job.
