Job Responsibilities
Support country programmes with technical guidance and input into proposals focused on the nexus between climate and displacement
Support 2 projects specifically that cover climate adaptation in Mali, Niger and Senegal.
Strengthen DRCs climate-focused programme approaches, focusing particularly on approaches that support communities in drought and flood conditions, including climate smart agriculture and resilience design, natural resource management and rangeland management, and forestry initiatives
Explore further effective climate programme models and nature-based solutions relevant to displacement settings that DRC could implement to support communities across West, Central Africa and Latin America.
Align climate programme models with other DRC sectors ensuring there is clear integration, understanding challenges and opportunities for implementation
Support countries with climate assessments as needed
Explore and map climate finance opportunities for DRC across the West, Central Africa and Latin America region including traditional donors and climate finance modalities, identifying relevant opportunities and partners and that DRC can work with to access climate funding
Develop partnerships with relevant climate agencies that compliment DRCs work and can open opportunities to access additional climate financing
Work with country offices on proposals - supporting ideation, design, delivery modalities, and writing.
Explore alternative financing sources and recommend financing modalities, including carbon credits, investment finance, and other climate funding sources.
Support engagement with donors and private sector partners to position DRC’s work in this area.
Conduct workshops and training sessions to share knowledge and build capacity within DRC teams on climate programming and financing.
Prepare and submit comprehensive technical reports, including preliminary analyses, programmatic approach documents, and final reports.
Ensure the coordination with relevant climate actors in the areas of intervention.
Representation of DRC and active participation in climate sectors/working groups.
Contribute to DRC advocacy and policy influencing in the region, externally as well as internally, and representing the organisation in relevant fora;
Skills
5 years of experience in proposal writing and proposal development
Strong technical experience in design and delivery of climate programming, with hands-on experience ideally focused in humanitarian settings
Strong experience in partnership development with climate focused partners and strong network of climate partners and actors in the region, including ideally with funders
Experience bidding for funding from climate funds e.g GCF, GEF, Adaptation Fund
Understanding of refugee / host community contexts, including socio-economic challenges and opportunities and the role NGOs and private sector can play in addressing challenges and realizing opportunities.
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication, and reporting skills.
Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English and French
Technical experience in resilience design and climate smart agriculture
Experience in working across multi-country contexts with diverse teams.
Experience in climate financing modalities such as carbon credits
Experience working in West, Central Africa and/or Latin America
Communication skills in Spanish is a strong asset
Experience working with a multitude of stakeholders, from senior management in countries, to field technical staff
Full professional proficiency in French and English
