Nearly three-quarters of young people aged 15 to 24 in 92 countries with available data are off-track to acquiring the skills needed for employment, according to a new report published by the Education Commission and UNICEF ahead of World Youth Skills Day.
The report, titled ‘Recovering learning: Are children and youth on track in skills development?’ features analyses on skills development in early childhood, and among children of primary school age and youth, according to a statement issued on Thursday.

What do a Facebook meme, a good novel, and our textbooks have in common? We all have to read them. Reading has become an indispensable activity in our lives. However, reading is not usually something that everyone enjoys all the time. For example, you can observe the distinct difference between a student glancing through their textbook and someone reading their favourite book. However, in the age of social media and the curtailed attention span of youths, reading is evolving. Merely saying words aloud from books is not enough anymore. The new generation always wants something exciting and new, traits that they do not associate with books, especially textbooks. Four students' take on textbooks: The type of books that are read by the youth the most is textbooks. The structure in which the textbooks are written is heavily reliant on the academic curriculum present in Bangladesh. That being said, the structure in question is not a popular one amongst most students.
The US embassy here has said they were hopeful to clear huge backlog of student visa ahead of the fall session as its consular section was engaged in processing them even on Friday weekends, BSS reports.
"We are doing everything we can clear the backlog, the embassy is really prioritizing this," a consular officer of US embassy told BSS.
She said the consular section was hopeful to clear the backlogs by fall as a group of officials were engaged only in processing the student visas intending to attend the fall semester in US universities.
